Praying Outside the Lines

Our theme for Images of Spirituality 2019 is "Everyday Prayer": what does it mean and what does it look like? Finding holiness in everything we do and see and hear is dubbed "kitchen sink thinking" by our session leader, the Rev. Sara Boyles. Through personal prayer and taking pleasure in the ordinary, we open ourselves to the sacred in everyday life and discover how it reframes our lives to be more prayerful, especially during transitions in our life’s journey.

Together, we will engage in discussion, stories, music, worship, creative arts, reflection, and contemplation and come in closer contact with ourselves and God. We invite you to join us – our gathering will be inspirational and spiritual.

The Rev. Sara Boyles

Sara spent several years in Calgary in the 1980’s and was priest at St. George’s Anglican Church in NE Calgary. She helped launch the first Images of Spirituality gathering in 1989. When Sara returned to Toronto, she became priest at The Church of the Holy Trinity where she was known for her creative approach to ministry and her outreach work with vulnerable and needy people. She has been a chaplain in provincial jails and an educator for children who had difficulty in the public school system. She chaired the national interfaith committee which worked with Corrections Canada to assure the best possible delivery of chaplaincy services to people involved in the federal correctional system.

She has experience leading workshops on many topics. In retirement, she continues her journey of self-discovery and enjoys her grandchildren, visual arts, and travel.

The Rev. Carolyn Herold

Carolyn has joined us at Images of Spirituality gatherings for over 20 years as an enthusiastic participant and, more recently, as worship leader. She serves as the assistant priest at St. Laurence Anglican Church in Calgary and is a Spiritual Care Provider for Alberta Health Services. Her love of travel and a desire to deepen her spirituality has taken her to spiritual centres in Palestine, Assisi and the U.S.A.

Carolyn is thrilled to be a grandmother, the wife of a romantic and wonderful man, and enjoys spending time reveling in the beauty of God's creation.
