Grounded in God

In an increasingly turbulent and fast-paced world, we sometimes find it difficult to connect with God at a deeper level, find that place where we can be at peace and find the strength to show up for life.

Through this retreat, we will explore our understanding of God and discover practices that will help us connect with God in ways that bring greater meaning to our spiritual lives and help us to live in ways that are authentic, purposeful and transformative.

Together, we will engage in discussion, stories, music, worship, creative arts, reflection, and contemplation and come in closer contact with ourselves and God. We invite you to join us – our gathering will be inspirational and spiritual.

Rev. Julia Kimmett

Julia was born and raised on a small farm in south-eastern Ontario. When she was confirmed at the age of 13 she knew she was called to ministry but it took her another 3 decades until she followed that call. She was ordained in 2012 after working in a downtown United Church in Calgary as a Staff Associate in Spiritual Formation for 17 years. She now serves as the minister at Okotoks and De Winton United Churches.

Julia has a passion for Spiritual Formation and big ideas. She believes that an adult faith comes from critically challenging what we learned as children and that it may not look much like it did in our younger years.

Rev. Lee Spice

Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, Lee identifies as bi-racial, having Indigenous (Tlingit) and European roots. She has been a part of the United Church since early adulthood, and a part of the wider Church since childhood. Ordained in 2004, she has served rural and urban churches until 2019, when she became the Pastoral Relations Minister for Chinook Winds Region of The United Church of Canada.

Lee has an interest in music and dabbles in many instruments, including piano, whistles and recorders, and drums; and plays percussion in the community band. She is an explorer at heart, having climbed many mountains, hiked many trails and canoed a few rivers.
